Fibroadenomas have little or no chance of turning into cancer. Fibroadenomas are not a risk factor for breast cancer. There is no harm in fibroadenomas detected in your breast using various methods remaining in your breast.
If a mass thought to be a fibroadenoma grows while under radiological follow-up, it is generally desired to make sure whether that lesion is a fibroadenoma or not, and a biopsy is performed on that lesion under the guidance of radiological methods. Fibroadenomas growing alone do not require surgical removal.
Fibroadenomas that grow very large, reach palpable size, and cause anxiety in the patient can be removed radiologically or surgically. The breast is a cosmetic organ, unnecessary surgeries can damage this cosmetics. It is appropriate to avoid surgery for benign lesions when it is not necessary.
